Water Tanks:
In spite of the fact that we now have a well that produces lots of pure water, many people still lack access to all the clean water they need.  Lots of people must walk long distances to get to the well.  Whatever water they take must be carried in plastic buckets back to their homes. Water sanitation remains a huge issue on the plateau, where most people still drink water collected from contaminated streams or ponds.

A great alternative to this risky drinking situation is installing gutters and water tanks at homes, collecting rainwater during the rainy seasons to be used when it is dry. Many of these “water harvesting systems” have already been installed at homes on the plateau, and we plan to continue providing this solution to those who need it.

Estimated cost: $225 per tank

  • Purchases and transports one tank to a home on the plateau
  • Pays a worker to put in a concrete foundation and set up the tank, install gutters on the house, and connect all of this into a “rainwater harvesting system”

Goats:
Dairy goats provide orphans and elders of Bethlehem Home with goat’s milk, which is even more nutritious for them than cow’s milk.  Goats are cared for and milked by Bethlehem Home orphans and elders. The goats that are purchased are specially bred, hardy Toggenburg and Alpine breed goats that live quite well in the climate of the Plateau.  The cost includes the goat, a wooden pen (built like a house on stilts to protect them), and the cost of having the government veterinary expert visit them periodically to give them immunizations and medicine if needed.

Estimated cost: Males- $250 and Females- $225

Medicines:
We are always in need of over-the-counter medications, such as:

  • Pain relievers (i.e. Tylenol, Asprin)
  • VITAMINS (ADULT, KIDS, PRENATAL)
  • Allergy (decongestants, antihistamine)
  • Stomach medications (i.e. Tums, Omeprazole)
  • Topical (apply to skin): cortisone (Cortaid), antifungal (Lotrimin), antibacterial (Bactroban, Neosporin)
  • Eyedrops (i.e. saline drops or eyedrops for allergies)
  • Cough medicine (Adult and children)
  • Toothbrushes & toothpastes (preferably in bulk)

Thank you!
